Electrically Insulated angular contact ball bearings can withstand larger radial loads, mainly combined radial and axial loads and moment loads, limiting the axial displacement of the shaft on both sides. The tiltability between the inner and outer rings of the double row angular contact ball bearing is mainly used to limit the bidirectional axial displacement of the shaft and the housing. The allowable tilt angle depends on the internal clearance of the bearing, bearing size, internal design and acting on it. The force and moment on the bearing, and the maximum allowable inclination angle should ensure that no excessive additional stress is generated in the bearing. If there is an inclination angle between the inner and outer rings of the bearing, it will affect the life of the bearing, and at the same time cause the bearing’s running accuracy to decrease and the running noise to increase. Double row angular contact ball bearings generally use nylon cages or brass solid cages. Pay attention to the installation of double row angular contact ball bearings. Although the bearing can withstand two-way axial loads, if there is a gap for the ball on one side, care should be taken not to allow the main axial load to pass through the gap on the side of the groove. When the bearing is used, care should be taken to make the side raceway without the ball notch bear the main load.

Electrically Insulated cylindrical roller bearings

Electrically Insulated cylindrical roller bearings have outer ring coating, inner ring coating and ceramic material rolling elements. How to install insulated bearing correctly?

2. Do the bearing inspection work before installation

Before installing an insulated bearing, check the package for completeness. If it is damaged, carefully check whether the insulation layer of the bearing is damaged. If this type of bearing is damaged, its insulation capacity is greatly reduced, and it is easy to be corroded by current and lose its insulation. 3. Check the matching size of the insulated bearing and the rotor shaft

4. Control the amount of oil in the bearing and the bearing housing

Too much oil in the bearing and the box will cause the rolling elements of the bearing to slip, causing the rolling friction to change from rolling friction to sliding friction, which will damage the rolling elements of the bearing. Due to the excessive amount of oil in the bearing, the free space in the bearing box is small, and the operating temperature of the bearing will be reduced. 5. Pay attention to ensure that the insulation function

If the bearing insulation is damaged during installation, the thin oil film of the bearing will be broken down by the shaft voltage. After the oil film breaks down, not only will the lubrication conditions of the rolling elements be poor, but also the electric sparks generated will form electrical corrosion on the rolling elements of the bearing, causing the rolling elements The surface is not polished, which accelerates the wear of the bearing.

SKF INSOCOAT bearings with electrically insulating coating are the special design special used in Electric motor. Electric motors, generators and associated equipment are at risk when an electric current passes through their bearings. This can damage the contact surfaces of rolling elements and raceways in the bearings (electrical erosion) and rapidly degrade the grease. An additional risk in electric motors and generators comes from high frequency currents caused by the inherent stray capacitance. The risk of damage increases where the application uses a frequency converter.

INSOCOAT bearings are designed to prevent electric current from passing through the bearing. The external surfaces of either their inner or outer ring are coated with an insulating aluminium oxide layer, by applying a sophisticated plasma-spray process for an outstanding quality finish. The solutions are very cost-effective compared with other insulation methods.

They must be robust enough to operate in electrical equipment with modern AC technology. The passage of electric current through rolling bearings can lead to damage in a relatively short period of time. Small craters caused by electric current passage which have been tolerated occasionally in the past are no longer acceptable. SKF, as a consequence, has developed the INSOCOAT bearing range. These bearings have special coated outer rings with an electrically-insulated layer for a breakdown voltage up to 1,000 V.

To ensure smooth, trouble-free operation, it is necessary to prevent the bearing from electric current passage. The contact areas between housing, outer ring, rolling elements, inner ring and shaft can act as electric contacts. The resulting arcs – characterised by very high temperatures similar to that produced by melting and welding processes – will damage rolling elements as well as raceways of bearing rings. Typical damage is characterised by craters and false brinelling.

VL024 and VA309 breakdown voltage to 500V and VL0241 and VA3091 breakdown voltage up to 1,000V. VA309 and VA3091 are applied to bearings for traction motor applications.

In principle, electrically-insulated bearings can be of any type. Most common bearing types include cylindrical roller bearings and deep groove ball bearings with outside diameters larger than 75 mm for traction motor designs, stationary electric motors (medium and large types), generators and special applications including submersible pumps. Insulated cylindrical roller bearing mean the same design with normal standard cylindrical roller bearing with coated insulated materials on the inner ring or outer ring. The cylindrical roller and raceway of the cylindrical roller bearing are linear contact bearings. Load capacity, mainly bear radial load. The friction between the rolling element and the retaining edge of the ring is small, which is suitable for high-speed rotation. The inner and outer rings of cylindrical roller bearings can be separated. According to whether the rings have ribs or not, they can be divided into single row cylindrical roller bearings such as NU, NJ, NUP, N, NF, and double row cylindrical roller bearings such as NNU and NN series.

Cylindrical roller insulated bearings are designed to prevent current from passing through the bearing. On the outer surface of the inner ring of the bearing or the outer surface of the outer ring, a layer of aluminum oxide coating with insulating properties is sprayed through a complex plasma spraying process, which can avoid the electric corrosion effect of the induced current on the bearing and prevent the current from affecting the grease and grease. Damage caused by rolling elements and raceways can increase the service life of the bearing. The external dimensions and basic technical characteristics of cylindrical roller insulated bearings are the same as ordinary cylindrical roller bearings, so they can be interchanged each other.

Compared with ordinary insulated bearings, cylindrical roller insulated bearings have good electrical corrosion resistance. By integrating insulation properties into the bearings, insulated bearings can improve reliability by eliminating electrical corrosion problems and extend the uptime of equipment. Cylindrical roller insulated bearings adopt a unique sealing process to encapsulate the bearings, which can be protected from humidity and moisture during use. The aluminum oxide coating on the surface has a minimum resistance of 200MΩ and can withstand a voltage of up to 3000V DC.
